CONTINUOUS IMPROVEMENT

The state of Arizona requires all public schools to go through a process of continuous improvement. This is also an important component to being a fully accredited high school through Cognia Accreditation. SHS has proudly been an accredited high school since 1925. We embrace this opportunity to take the time to celebrate our achievements and focus on ways we can improve all we do to help students be successful, contributing members of society upon graduation. We believe that taking collective responsibility for the education of each and every student at SHS is imperative to their success. We do this through the important work done within our Professional Learning Community (PLC).

At the micro level, SHS faculty uses Friday afternoons to meet and discuss one or more of the four questions of a PLC with their departmental and/or course specific teams. Here are the questions we use to discuss proficiency of essential standards:
1: What is it we expect students to learn?
2: How will we know when they have learned it?
3: How will we respond when they don't learn?
4: How will we respond when they already know it?
These questions help to keep us focused on student learning and how to reach all students at all levels. Our professional learning teams are able to positively affect student learning through continuous discussions focused around these four questions.

At the macro level, the whole SHS staff PLC looks at our student achievement and other data (i.e. surveys, community input, etc.) to determine areas we'd like to improve as a school and develop action plans to meet those goals. Below you will find links to our current and past Continuous Needs Assessment (CNA) and Integrated Improvement Plans (IAP) for SHS.
