NATIONAL HONOR SOCIETY (NHS)

Membership in the Snowflake High School chapter of the National Honor Society is determined by Scholarship, Character, Service, and Leadership which are the four pillars. We induct only juniors and seniors. We begin with the list of students and their rank in class. We check the top 20% of the junior and senior classes at the end of the first semester of the junior year and again for seniors at the end of the first semester of that year. Each student must be taking at least two honors classes, have a GPA of 4.0 cumulative, and be enrolled in at least 4 classes per the constitution. Those who fit this criteria receive an application to fill out concerning their activities, awards, and their service which needs to be signed by themselves and a parent or guardian. We ask the teachers on campus to evaluate the students on their character—responsibility, honesty, etc. in class and on campus.

Once we have received all of this information, point value is assigned to activities and service listed on each student’s application, and a faculty committee determines whether the student is accepted into Honor Society or not.

If you want to be selected into NHS:

  • Study hard and take challenging classes.

  • Be involved in school activities.

  • Look for opportunities to be of service at school or in the community.

  • Be honest and responsible; be a person of integrity.

NHS Tutoring Info:

Purpose of tutoring

The purpose of NHS, National Honor Society, is to provide needed service to the Snowflake High School community.  The members tutor students in a one to one model most of the time in core subjects such as Algebra I, IA, IB, Algebra II, Geometry, and College Algebra.  They also can tutor in science - Biology, Physical Science, and Chemistry - as well as social studies and English if needed.

Time and Place for tutoring

Typically tutoring is held in the library here at Snowflake High School on Fridays during the Reteach time - 8:00 am to 11:30 am.  Students who need tutoring can come to Mrs. Ruffell to be put into a schedule or can show up at the library during the specified times.  If a student needs tutoring at a different time or in a different place, accommodations can be made by contacting Mrs. Ruffell who will contact the tutoring liaison for NHS.
