ATTENDANCE REQUIREMENTS FOR GRADUATION

Seniors are no exception to the attendance policies of SHS. In fact, seniors are needing to be as cautious as ever to ensure they can walk on time with their class. Here is some information you will want to know to be on track to graduate as far as attendance is concerned. Seniors will need to have all of their CP's fixed prior to walking at graduation. As much as possible, students should be fixing CP's the semester immediately following them being put on their transcript. This will save them time, effort, energy, and stress when they're trying to check all the boxes off to be sure they're ready to graduate.

If a student happens to make it to their final semester of their senior year, with CP's on their transcript, they'll have some options of how to fix it. Those will include: community service hours, detentions, and Friday school attendance options, but those won't be available to seniors until mid-April of that last semester. That gives you only a small amount of time (approx. 5-6 weeks) to complete many hours of work if you've earned a lot of CP's over your high school career, and that could keep you from walking with the rest of your class on graduation day. In those final weeks, each CP will require 5 hours of the above options to earn your grade back on your transcript in order to graduate. So, if you end up with just 2 CP's a semester all four years that you never fix prior to April of your senior year, you would have to make up about 80 hours of service/detentions. That's a lot to accomplish in 5-6 weeks. So, we HIGHLY caution you against getting CP's at all, or at least fixing them all prior to your senior year. We promise that you do not want to be doing these things during the last month of your high school experience. Instead, just be here, have fun, and have no worries about graduating with your class!

Important Note: Seniors that are on the senior trip will have those days school excused, and it won't count against them. If you are not going on the senior trip, but you want to be off the last week of school when most seniors are gone, you'll want to be absolutely sure you don't have too many absences that semester before just being gone. Check with the Assistant Principal (AP) over your grade level to be sure you can afford excused absences that week. Under no circumstances should you chance not coming to school and the absences be unexcused, as this could mean a CP would be placed on your transcript with NO time to fix it prior to graduation. This means that you would not be able to walk with your class. Don't let that happen to you! Always be in contact with your AP and be sure you can afford the absences prior to the last week of school.
