What is CTE?

Career Technical Education (CTE) provides students with academic, technical, and hands-on skills to prepare them for future careers. CTE courses combine classroom learning with real-world applications and leadership opportunities through Career and Technical Student Organizations (CTSOs).

How is CTE different from academic learning?

Traditional classes focus on core subjects like English, math, and science, while CTE programs emphasize hands-on, career-focused training in areas such as healthcare, agriculture, technology, and engineering.

CTE isn’t just for students skipping college—96% of CTE students graduate, and most continue to higher education. Many programs connect directly to degree-based careers like engineering, business, or medicine.

Certificates & Industry Credentials

All CTE classes lead to industry certifications, such as Adobe Premiere, Python, NCCER, or Microsoft Suite.

NAVIT (Northern Arizona Vocational Institute of Technology)

What is NAVIT?

NAVIT is a Career and Technical Education District (CTED) that partners with Northland Pioneer College to offer specialized training. NAVIT students are dual-enrolled in both high school and college — with tuition and fees fully paid by NAVIT — and earn at least one industry credential upon completion.

NAVIT Program Details

When to Apply: Students may sign up or join the waiting list as soon as they start at SHS.
Who Can Participate: Juniors and seniors (most programs are two years).
Start Date: For the 2024–2025 school year, NAVIT begins July 30, 2024.
Additional Costs: Some programs may require deposits, uniforms, or fingerprint cards. Contact Mrs. West for details.

Student-to-Work Program

What is Student-to-Work?

Seniors who have completed a two-year CTE program or are enrolled in NAVIT can earn high school credit through on-the-job experience.
